African Mask

This African mask is suspended on a golden raw silk wrapped backing board. The fabric texture and color complements the mask, and allows the lighter colors to more dramatically stand out. This pair of asian flower prints are individually framed with a copper beaded fillet. They are then mounted on top of an olive silk hand-wrapped backing board. The patined copper finished frame accents the shading in the art. A spacer is used to ensure the glass doesn't rest on the art....

Aviation print

The airplane print was matted in gold and blue to complement the color of the sky. The symbols seen on the side of the plane were cut out in the mat to emphasize its historical reference to the naval airforce in WWII. The frame was chosen to mimic the finish on the plane. ...

Ballet shoes

The ballet shoes are mounted on a purple silk. The mat and silver fillet are raised about two inches to create sufficient depth for the ballet shoes to float within. The mat is wrapped with a pink silk, and the silver fillet seperates the two fabrics and ties in with the silver fillet used with the dark wood frame. ...

Burma Road

This watercolor of Burma Road is a historical painting from WWII. It is floated on top of a sage green raw silk hand wrapped mat board, allowing the the edges of its paper to be seen. Walls were built and wrapped in the same fabric for the glass to rest on so that it would not be touching the artwork. The antiqued light grey frame complements the washes in the painting, and its patterned surface continues the horizontal lines in the tent and mountains....

Child's painting and photos

The painting is matted with blue, and the photos are raised and matted in complementary red and yellow. The side walls of the shadow box are made from green mat board in keeping with the theme of primary colors. The paint set and brush are attatched to float over the painting and mat to create a playful composition. Plexi glass was used for its nonbreakable feature because the piece was to be hung in the artist's room. ...

Gauguin Original Painting

This Gauguin painting is matted with neutral rag mat to serve as a protective barrier between the art and the wood fillet. The fillet has a antigue gold finish, and acts as a visual transition between the art and the frame. The top mat is hand-wrapped with a neutral raw silk. The closed corner frame gives it an exquisetly custom look. These frames are individually built to size, and then finished so that there are no visible corner seams. Every detail is hand- carved to reflect its particular dimension. Notice now the side trim faces outward from the center piont of the frame in every direction. ...

Japanese print of bamboo

This Japanese print is floated over a black silk background. The mat is covered in the same black silk and has a bamboo styled silver fillet to visually separate the space between the art and the mat. The distressed look of the silver frame used complements the lines in the print and also accents the red stamp where its cracks reveal a red undercoat....

This colorful print was double matted with a red suede thinly revealed mat under a rich purple raw silk hand wrapped mat. They continue the use of complementary colors in the image. The round modern frame repeats the curves in the piece without competing with it....

Medals and memorabilia

This collection of Vietnam Navy medals was combined with photos, identification cards, badges and other personal items. The goal was to create visual record of who this man was at that time in his life. The items were all floated onto a blue suede fabric mat. Walls were built from the same mat to line the inside ledge of the frame and to create depth. The tarnished silver finish of the frame complements the medals. ...

This Florentine cityscape is floated on a sage green mat. The same mat is raised above the image and creates depth. The gold fillet creates a frame within a frame effect. This portion is matted and floating on a cream mat. The frame used is a hand crafted Italian moulding. The gold trim compliments the fillet, and its painted section of the frame has many of the tones found in the image. This works well to create a larger piece out of a small image....

Photos of couple to be wed and sentimental sand dollar

This collection of photos was chosen to be displayed at a wedding reception. An extra round window was cut for the sand dollar which was found on the beach in the photos. The window in the top mat was cut to accent the arches in their home were it will later hang. The mat colors complement the soft tones in the photos, and the texture of the frame reflectes light in a similar manner to the water in the photographs....

Small Impiglia print

This print was doubled matted using a peach rag mat and a green suede on top to emphasize the womans dress. The black and gold closed corner frame was chosen for its Art Deco style. The closed corner frames are built to the size needed, and then hand finished so that there are no visible seams. This creates a very clean and custom feel. ...
